SEVERED HEAD 025

This is the severed head gag for second unit photography where a passing drunk gets his head torn off by the zombie vicar down an alley way. the head itself is from an old life cast master mould that I had kicking around, and as there was no real "actor" for the role, yours truly took the part. it doesn't matter that this looks nothing like me, as the drunk is also wearing a hoody and is filmed mostly from behind to capture the vicars expressions. After casting the head in polyfoam I hacked away at it for a while to create these massive fissures that would hold loads of lovely blood and gore where the vicars hands would slide in and squelch!! After spray painting a nice red base to the insides of the head I base coated the outside in unbleached titainium and then a light green wash. then I added a nice warm pink to bring a little life to the piece and then tanned the whole thing down adding touches of blue where necessary. As this was only a passing gore gag and in second unit, I did not bother going to such gret lengths to punch hair, but merely hot glued (hot glue guns are gold and no one should ever be without one XD!!) the hair down. I started this and realised I had a lack of dencent hair sooooo, after convincing the wife, I shaved my sons head with clippers, and hey presto, decent hair LOL. After gluing the hair on in small patches so that it would just poke out from underneath the hat that the head would be wearing I got to work on the nice juciy floppy bits that would make up the body of the head gore. For this effect I use what Tom Savini coined as "Chunks O' Flesh". These are old lumps of foam latex, the sort of left over crap that you get in mixing bowls and injection syringes etc after gelling has taken place. These nice little string bits were hot glued ont the neck gore and into the head cavity. After this (now comes the messy bit) I added the final part, the gell blood to all the appropriate areas, and WHAM! a fast, but hopefully effective severed head gag for second unit filming!! Enjoy!!
